NCAA AND NFHS MAKE RULE CHANGE TO ALLOW COLORED WATER POLO BALLS
IRVINE, CA, MAY 9th 2006–With help from the NCAA Rules Committee and NFHS Rules Committee, Mikasa Sports is happy to announce a rule change allowing colored balls to be played in all NCAA and NFHS sanctioned games.
The current rule states that the water polo ball must be "yellow with black lines" but the new wording will allow for colored panels.
"This is a very positive step forward for Water Polo" said Richard McCoy, President of Mikasa Sports USA. "The colored balls not only look great but have benefited schools that use them by making it easier for them to keep track of their balls, differentiating the women's balls from the men’s and as a teaching tool for proper rotation on the ball."
Although Mikasa has been working hard to get the colored balls approved, it would not have been possible with out help from some key people at USA Water Polo. Mikasa Sports would like to thank Barbara Kalbus, Mike Lewis, Guy Baker and Ricardo Azevedo for their part in making this progressive change.
Currently, Mikasa colored balls come in five different colors: Yellow/Black, Yellow/Red, Yellow Blue, Yellow/Green and the FINA approved ball which is neon yellow/blue.
